Christmas Caroling

    In early November, some 20 volunteer carolers started rehearsing for the Christmas caroling. From Dec. 4 through Dec. 19, the group (under the direction of Maestro Bobby Tolentino) would start their weekend caroling visits to homes and parties and senior citizen groups. The group was invited to 4 Christmas parties, 5 homes and 2 senior citizen groups. The carolers netted more than $3,000 in their fundraising efforts.

Trip to Horseshoe Casino

November 14th, 2010

    More than 20 passengers seeking good luck and good fortune at the gaming tables joined the Casino Trip to Horseshoe in Indiana as part of the club’s fund raising activity. Horseshoe Casino provides the round trip free ride, the club provides the passengers who are charged $15.00 each. Coffee and donuts are served on the outbound trip, wine on the inbound trip to toast the lucky winners.

Peace Poster Contest

    The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club held their 9th Peace Poster Contest last November 8, 2010 at the Marquardt School District 15 Administration Center. More than 100 peace poster entries were submitted by students from Glenside Middle School, Marquardt Middle School and St. Matthew School. Cash prizes were awarded to first prize winners from each school. Of the three first prize posters, Nicole Gorcsos’s poster from Glenside Middle School was picked by District 1J to represent the District in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

Free Hearing Screening at Elk Grove Park District

October 10th, 2010

    Lions of Illinois Foundation Hearing Bus parked at the Elk Grove Park District to provide free hearing test to Elk Grove residents who use the fitness center. The Lions helped with the registration for free hearing test.

Walk To School Day

October 6th, 2010

    As part of the International Walk To School Day celebrating the many benefits of safely walking and bicycling to school and to encourage more families to consider getting out of the car and onto their feet on the way to school, the Lions provided breakfast snacks and fruit drinks to the more than 150 students of Glen Hill Elementary School who walked to school with their parents.

Adopt-A-Highway Clean-up

October 2nd, 2010

    Eight Lions volunteers picked up garbage and empty water bottles at the Brandon St. in Glendale Heights as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program. Next clean-up is Spring 2012.

Camp Lions Open House

August 6th, 2010

    The Lions and friends of the club joined the Camp Lions tour at Camp Reynoldswood in Dixon, IL, a few blocks from Pres. Reagan’s historic birthplace. Some 25-30 hearing impaired and or vision impaired kids attended the summer camp conducted by experienced camp counsellors who communicated with the campers in sign language. After the camp tour, a picnic dinner was provided where guests could sit and communicate with the campers.

Annual Picnic in the Park

    Summer fun is not complete without a picnic in the park. The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions rolled out a jolly picnic at the Spring Creek Reservoir for a day of fun, friendship and plenty of good chow: sweet corn, watermelon, barbecue and plenty of delicious Pinoy cooking.

26th Charter Anniversary Celebration

    The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club celebrated its 26th charter anniversary at the Medinah Shriner’s Center on May 8, 2010. District 1J Governor George Endean was the guest speaker who awarded a Melvin Jones Fellow to incoming president Susan Galvez and a Lion of the Year award to Gary Estacio.
